“Prior to this, were focused more on transcribing and submitting the medical history of patient which is in audio format,” Suyogya Man Tuladhar, president and CEO of Transcube International, said. He further added many patients in US are claiming insurance from codes prepared by Nepali MT companies. “Our employees transcribe the voice of doctors and health personnel at US based hospitals,” Tuladhar added.
Established in 2002, the company witnessed 100 percent growth in revenue in the first five years of its establishment. However, the company has been recording revenue growth in the range of 15-17 percent in the last three years.
Nepali MT companies charge 5 to 8 cents for every line they transcribe, which is similar to the rates charged by MT companies in India, according to Tuladhar. “Nepali MT companies are also providing the service that is on par with services provided by the Indian companies,” he claimed.
According to Tuladhar, Nepali MT companies used to take jobs from Indian companies before establishing direct link with US companies. Commenting on the performance of Nepali youths, Tuladhar said, "The good thing about Nepali youths is that they are resilient, patient and have the capability to work for long hours," Tuladhar said.
Youths willing to make career in MT should be good at transcribing information from audio file and should be well-versed on medical terminologies, Tuladhar said, adding that his company is currently dealing with about three dozen clinics and 300 doctors in US. “Thanks to the time difference between Nepal and US, we are getting a huge demand for outsourcing jobs,” Tuladhar said.
Tuladhar said Nepali MT companies didn´t face any problem due to global economic downturn as people around the world do not compromise on healthcare services.
Every year, BPO industry in India gets billions of dollars worth business contracts from US and other countries in the form of medical transcription, call centers and export of software through knowledge-based industries.
“This became possible only due to facilities, tax holiday and a host of other incentives provided to BPO firms,” Tuladhar said. He also said Andhra Pradesh state of India has provided tax holiday for three years to encourage IT companies establish their offices there.
Nepali BPO industry has also been demanding similar facilities from the government. But Tuladhar regrets that the government is turning deaf ears to their demands. “But we have not lost hopes yet. We are hopeful of getting incentives from the government,” he added.
