ILAM, Aug 17: The indefinite Mechi Highway strike scheduled to begin Tuesday at the call of the Transport Entrepreneurs has been called off.

The transport entrepreneurs called off the strike following a deal reached between the local administration and the entrepreneurs. [break]

The strike was called in order to exert pressure on the local administration to nab those involved in the incident of looting and beating of a taxi driver and its occupants by an armed group of people at Bhalukhop of Ilam on the Mechi Highway on August 12. They have also called for compensation to the victims.

The banda was withdrawn after the police administration expressed the commitment to arrest those involved in the incident and also ensure security of the transport workers and entrepreneurs, Vice-President of Nepal Transport Workers Association, Ilam, Keshang Lama said.
