During a press conference organized by Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on Tuesday, John Stefan, head of cricket at the MCC, informed that the club will visit Nepal in November and play five matches in Nepal.He informed that MCC wanted to support CAN for the development of cricket in the country which has many cricketers with high potential.
"We have been trying to support for the development of cricket in Nepal and the tour will be a part of our aim of supporting cricketing nations in developing countries," said Stefan, who added that well-known players of the MCC will tour Nepal during the event. "We are also planning to play a two-day match during the tour, however it is yet to be decided," said Stefan. He further informed that at least one coach, having level three training, will also be visiting Nepal to share experience and guide some of the young cricketers in the country.
He informed that the MCC could also support for the development of cricket ground in Nepal.
The MCC, which had previously toured Nepal in 2003 and 2009, has been supporting Nepali cricketers by providing scholarship to get trained at the club. The MCC also picked up Nepali skipper Paras Khadka during the Emirates Airlines Twenty20 Trophy held in Dubai in March earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Nepali team skipper Paras said that playing for the MCC was a great experience and a big opportunity for him.
CAN Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bhawana Ghimire informed that the schedule of the tour has not been fixed yet as the national team is slated to play two List A matches of the ICC World Cricket League Championship against Papua New Guinea on November 16 and 18 at Abu Dhabi in the UAE. She informed that some of the national players of A team will play against the MCC.
