KATHMANDU, March 20: Visiting English cricket club Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) started its Nepal tour with a win over CAN President XI at the TU Cricket Ground on Friday. MCC beat Nepali side by eight runs in a rain interrupted match.[break]

President XI won the toss and elected to bat. Their decision looked a wise one as the opening pair of Paresh Lohani and Subash Khakurel totalled 70 runs.

But after that no one dared to confront a superb bowling display by spinner Nishel Patel. Patel tore apart the Nepali batting line as the entire team bundled for just 138 runs in 41.4 overs.

Nishel took seven wickets in his 10 over giving away just 29 runs. Paresh topscored with 43 runs followed by fellow opener Subash who got 21 runs.

Chasing a moderate target, the veteran MCC side started cautiously.

MCC reached 77/4 runs in 25.2 overs when rain interrupted play. At that point, MCC were eight runs ahead on D/L chart.

Manjeet Shrestha and Pramod Basnet took two wickets each but it was not sufficient to prevent the MCC win. Nishel Patel was adjudged man of the match.

MCC will play next match on March 23.
