KATHMANDU, Feb 11: Rival faction leader within the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) Dr Shekhar Koirala has said that the issue of ratification of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) agreement should be resolved through parliamentary process if there is no consensus among coalition partners.

Addressing the party's Central Work Performance Committee meeting on Friday, Dr Koirala said that NC should try its best to forge consensus among all political parties on the issue. He argued that the issue should be resolved through parliamentary process if the party's effort to forge consensus with other political parties on the MCC grant issue failed.

Dr Koirala also argued that failure to take the MCC compact agreement to parliament for deliberation even after the failure to forge consensus among coalition partners will raise a serious question over the capacity of the ruling alliance, the government, Nepali Congress and the parliament.

On the occasion, Dr Koirala also argued that NC should not forge alliance with any other parties in the upcoming local level election. NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba has stood in favor of forging an alliance with the coalition partners in the upcoming elections.
