KATHMANDU, May 24: Mayor Harka Sampang Rai of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City warned the federal government that he will hang corrupt officials on railings and use the area as a kickboxing practice ground to discipline them.

In a social media post, Rai sarcastically criticized the government's policy of building airports only after embezzling billions of rupees, saying he recently understood why they haven't built an airport in Dharan. He emphasized that if anyone commits even one rupee of corruption in his municipality, he will hang them on railings and turn the place into a kickboxing training ground.

He wrote, "The government has not built an airport in Dharan because their policy demands embezzling billions before construction! But in my municipality, if anyone embezzles even 1 rupee, I will hang them on railings, turn the area into a kickboxing practice ground, and discipline them — and I will do it! Understand this, government!"

Mayor Rai expressed his frustration after reports revealed officials embezzled billions during the construction of Pokhara International Airport.

The Parliamentary Investigation Subcommittee prepared a report concluding widespread corruption in the airport's construction.

Formed by the Public Accounts Committee to study and monitor the Pokhara Regional International Airport, the subcommittee found that officials embezzled more than 1.4 billion rupees during the project.
