Finance Minister Khatiwada presents fiscal year 2019/2020 budget

Finance Minister Yubaraj Khatiwada is presenting the fiscal year 2019/20 budget in the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneswor. This is the second federal budget of the current government led by KP Sharma Oli. While the Finance Minister Khatiwada had largely resisted pressure from within the party to introduce populist programs in the current fiscal year 2018/19. 

12th Republic Day being observed today

The 12th  Republic Day is being observed by organizing various program across the country today. A special function was held at the Tundikhel ground to mark the day, which was attended by President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Prime Minister KP Oli, cabinet ministers, senior government officials, ambassadors based in Kathmandu. On the occasion, Nepal Army troops showcased military parades, drills, and cultural shows. The Army helicopter also showered flower petals and unfurled a Republic Day banner in the air. 

Kangnam University offers honorary doctorate degree to PM Oli

The Kangnam University of South Korea has offered an honorary doctorate degree to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli amidst a special ceremony in the capital city today. University President Shinil Yoon conferred the degree on the PM. It is said that the honorary degree in 'political science' was given to the PM in recognition of his contribution to Nepal's political transformations.

Tatopani border point resumes its operation after three years

The Tatopani border point, Nepal's vital and the oldest trading point with the northern neighbor China that was closed following the April 2015 earthquakes, has resumed its operation on Wednesday. Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Matrika Prasad Yadav and Chinese Vice Minister Zhang Jiwen jointly inaugurated the reopening of the Tatopani border point. Minister Yadav and Vice Minister Jiwen jointly cut the ribbon at the Friendship Bridge at Tatopani border point.

Three held on charge of minor's murder after abduction

The Parsa Police have arrested three youths including an Indian national on the charge of kidnapping and killing an eight-year-old boy from Birgunj metropolis-3. They are Bikash Sharma from Betiya of Bihar, India, and currently staying in Birgunj metropolis-3; Sikendra Saha, of Kalaiya sub-metropolis-11, Bara; and Winesh Mahato of Khapartata, Bara. Identities of the accused were made public today.

India PM to host China's Xi for informal summit

 Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host Chinese President Xi Jinping this year for an informal summit, an Indian foreign ministry spokesman said on Wednesday, after meeting several times over the past year to try to defuse tension. The two held their first informal summit in Wuhan in April 2018 and at that meeting Xi had accepted Modi’s invitation to come to India for a second meeting. “The two sides are in touch, through diplomatic channels, to finalize the date and venue for the meeting,” the spokesman said.
