KATHMANDU, March 21: A massive fire has broken out at Gulab Sweet Shop at Sundhara in the capital on Wednesday.
Fire engines from Nepal Army, Nepali Police and Kathmandu Metropolitna Office have been deployed in the incident site. They are trying to contain the fire.
A short-circuit in the generator installed at the basement has caused the fire, according to staffers of the sweet shop.
The fire has also caused damages to the adjoining Hotel Shalimar.
Plumes of smoke coming out of the Shalimar Hotel and Gulab Sweet Shop buildings can been seen around the area.
According to police, two staffers – man and woman - of Shalimar Hotel sustained injuries in the incident. According to the police, woman – a cleaner - fainted after suffocation due to smoke while the man sustained minor injuries in the incident. Both of them are undergoing treatment at National Trauma Center.
The deployment of fire engines and hullaballoo caused by the incident has affected the traffic near Sundhara area.
The property incurred by the fire is yet to be assessed.
