LALITPUR, Jan. 23: The Martyrs Week 2013 has kicked off to pay tributes to the brave sons of the country who sacrificed their life and contributed to ushering in democracy in the country.

The Martyrs Week was inaugurated from Lalitpur today by garlanding the statue of martyr Shukraraj Shastri amidst a function organised by the National Press Club.

During the program, Chairman of the club Ramkrishna Karmacharya, social worker Dirgharaj Prasain, and Prof. Dr. Sundarkrishna Joshi, among others, discussed on the contemporary political situation and contribution of martyrs.

The club is organizing the week-long programme to the memory of four martyrs, Shukraraj Shatri, Gangalal Shrestha, Dasharath Chand, and Dharmabhakta Mathema, who were killed by the then Rana regime. The campaign will conclude on January 29.

They were executed between Magh 10 to 15, 1997 BS, blaming them for inciting the youths against the then Rana government.
