Martyr Mathema remembered

KATHMANDU, Jan 26: The centenary birth anniversary of martyr Dharma Bhakta Mathema has been observed today by organizing a programme in the capital.

Floral tribute was paid in martyr Mathema´s bust at Shifal, a place where Mathema got martyrdom. Martyr´s Week Main Organizing Committee of the Kathmandu Metropolis organized the programme.



On the occasion, Chief Executive Officer of Metropolis Kedar Bahadur Adhikari said the struggles made by late Mathema against Rana oligarchy helped introduce democracy in the country and as a result of the same people in the country have been sovereign.[break]



During the programme, martyr Mathema´s daughter Renu Mathema Shrestha said political parties should emphasize on social transformation of the people to fulfill the martyrs´ dreams.



Member secretary of the Committee Sanat Thapa and former Vice-chancellor of Tribhuvan University Kedar Bhakta Mathema said all should learn lessons from martyr´s contributions.



Martyr Mathema was born to Adi Bhakta Mathema and Chandra Kumari Devi in 1966 BS. Mathema was given a death sentence by the Rana rulers in January 26, 1941 for making people aware regarding democracy.
