Martial Arts team leave for Bangkok

KATHMANDU, July 30: A 41-member Nepali team is leaving for Thailand on Friday to participate in the First Asian Martial Arts Games to be held from August 1-9 in Bangkok, Thailand.[break]



Nepal is participating in four events--Judo, Taekwondo, Wushu and Karate -- out of nine events to be held there. Nepali team includes 18 players, 13 coaches and other officials.



Altogether, 955 players from 45 Asian nations are competing in the games. In total, 151 judo players judo from 25 nations, 181 taekwondo players from 33 nations, 153 karate players from 25 nations and 131 wushu players from 22 national will participate. Nepali team leader Purendra Bikram Lakhe has reached the venue two days earlier.



Meanwhile, Minister for Youth and Sports Ganesh Tiwari Nepali bade farewell to the team and wished for excellent performance by the Nepali players at a function in the ministry on Thursday.
