“We inspected the restaurant´s kitchen after a consumer filed complaint with us, saying that he found a matchstick in food served by it,” Madan Kumar Chapagain, food research officer at DFTQC, said.
During the inspection, the monitoring team found 40 kg of rotten chicken and decaying minced chicken and vegetables. It was also found using substandard sauce, expired and unlabelled spices and water jars.
The team took the food samples for lab test and destroyed rotten and substandard products.
“We have asked Raju Shrestha, manager of the café, to be present at DFTQC for further clarification and directed the café management to correct mistakes and maintain good hygiene at the earliest,” Chapagain said, adding: “We will give permission to reopen the café only after our instructions are implemented.”
Earlier, DFTQC had warned the café management for not maintaining good hygiene.
