DHANGADHI, Aug 31: Claiming that the West Seti Project is against the interest of the country, the Seti Mahakali State Committee of the UCPN (Maoist) has declared that it will not allow the project to run under present understanding between Nepal and India. The five-day meeting of the committee also decided to request the party´s central leadership not to ignore the project.

Committee Secretary Khagraj Bhatta, said, "The government must insure investment security and guarantee profit." The Maoists also said that electricity produced from the project must be utilized in Nepal first and only then it can be exported.

Bhatta argued that the protests during the visit to West Seti by the Asian Development Bank and torching of information centre was aimed at disallowing the implementation of the project. Bhatta added that all the agreements on the hydropower sector of with India on three major rivers in Nepal are “one-sided” and benefit only India.
