Maoists said this to media after their meeting with the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) at Singha Durbar on Sunday. [break]
"The government is not in position to table the annual budget nor will we allow this process to move ahead in the parliament under the current political situation. So it is high time the prime minister resigned," said Maoist Vice-chairman Narayankaji Shretha after a meeting.
Nepali Congress (NC) leaders including Acting President Sushil Koirala and parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Poudel and Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and vice-chairman Shrestha, among others, were present at the meeting.
Maoists demanded that the prime minister resign as per the gentleman´s agreement and a national consensus government be formed while striking deal on the issues related to the peace process. The meeting failed to bear fruit as the NC leaders demanded that the Maoist party should agree to the issues of the peace process and give timeframe to implement them.
"We asked them to effect the prime minister´s resignation and agreement on peace process simultaneously. But they asked for the prime minister´s resignation first," said NC leader Poudel after the meeting.
The Maoists say the ruling parties had agreed to quit the government within five days in the gentle-man´s agreement reached ahead of the CA term extension, but the ruling parties say that they had not agreed to do so without the Maoists first agreeing to the issues of the peace process including the integration and rehabilitation of the Maoist combatants.
