DHANKUTA, June 28: Two Nepali Congress (NC) cadres beaten up by the Maoists in Dhupu VDC-4 in Sankhuwasabha on Sunday evening have been brought to the district headquarters Khandbari for treatment on Monday.

The Maoist cadres who showed identity papers that said they were disqualified combatants had severely beaten up Devi Prasad Koirala and his son Badri Prasad at about 11 p.m. Sunday. They have received serious injuries to the head and back.

A team of security personnel, NC leaders and media persons had rescued them on Monday, according to NC Mahasamiti Member Mahesh Thapaliya.

The duo had joined NC after quitting UCPN (Maoist) two months back. The Maoists had demanded the NC cadres to either quit the party or pay the Maoists donations of Rs 500,000 to them.
