A group of 10 Maoist activists led by district deputy in-charge and member of Seti-Mahakali State Committee Top Bahadur Khadka dragged Birendra Sinha out of his office to Chainpur Bazaar, thrashed him and smeared soot on his face. [break]
The Maoists accused Sinha of financial irregularities in buying chemical fertilizers. Khadka said they were forced to take action against Sinha after no action was taken against him despite repeated complaints against him in the local administration.
A three-member fact finding team was set up three days ago under the coordination of Nepali Congress district president Prithvi Bahadur Singh to probe into the allegations.
Maoists´ Chandra Bahadur Singh and Dirgha Bahadur Kathayat from the Office of the Comptroller were other members. After the committee chairman resigned from the committee, the Maoists submitted a report to the local administration indicting Sinha of corruption, sources said.
“Since the report was one-sided, the administration refused to take action,” a source told myrepublica.com.

A separate committee has also been formed under CDO Chiranjivi Thapa´s coordination to investigate into the fertilizer deal. Stating that the Maoists have taken to illegal means at a time when investigation was on, Thapa said, “The Maoists have made a mockery of rule of law.”
Government employees in the district have protested the Maoist action and demanded that the guilty be brought to book by Sunday.
After the incident, Sinha has been kept at a police station.
