Normal life in the district has been affected due to the shutdown. The market, transport services, businesses and educational institutions in the district have closed due to the banda.
The inaugural function of the town council of Tikapur Municipality was stalled after the landless squatters and Maoist cadres pelted stones and started chanting anti-government slogans as the function was in progress.
In this connection the demonstrators also tried to attack the Minister of State for Energy, Chandra Singh Bhattarai as he reached the meeting venue.
The State Minister was not hurt in the incident but the windows of his vehicle were damaged.
Police resorted to baton charge and fire tear-gas shells to take the situation under control. Seven demonstrators were injured in that connection.
The banda organizers have taken out a protest rally with the participants carrying sticks in hands in course of the banda today.
