BAGLUNG, June 2: Maoist leaders have objected to the police action of not returning UNMIN verified weapons seized from a Maoist cadre a few days ago to the party.

Maoist politburo member Hemanta Prakash Oli criticized the police for not returning the weapons which were seized from his security guard from Maldhunga in Baglung last Sunday. [break]

Although the security guard, Sher Bahadur Pun, who was arrested along with the weapons, has been freed, the police are yet to return the weapons seized from him. The Maoists have claimed that all politburo members are entitled to keep armed security guards as per the peace agreement.

"As per the agreement, the security guards carry short machine guns," Oli told myrepublica.com, adding, "The weapons with UNMIN sticker have been kept in police custody against the peace deal."

Police sources said that UNMIN has already verified the weapons. The Maoists have alleged that the local police authorities did not return the guns even after Home Minister Bhim Rawal directed them to do so.

"The home minister has already gave nod to return the weapons, but the police have not been releasing the weapons in a conspiratorial manner," Oli said.

The district police office claimed that the weapons are kept for investigation at the direction of police headquarters. "We have informed the high-ranks about the guns, we will return the weapons once the order to this effect comes from the headquarters," DSP Bikas Raj Khanal said.
