DANG, Jan 1: Minister for Information and Communications Shankar Pokharel on Friday claimed that the Maoists were hatching conspiracy to delay writing of the new constitution.

Addressing a function organized by Press Chautari Nepal in Dang, Minister Pokharel claimed that the Maoists were pushing the constitution drafting process beyond the deadline (May 28, 2010) thinking that it would be to their “political advantage”. He also alleged that the Maoists began street protests to hold the country “hostage”.

Minister Pokharel said that there will be no political consensus unless all political parties are equally recognized. As long as the equation of gain and loss continues to exist, there will be no consensus, he said.

He termed the Maoists act of looting crops “criminal activities in the guise of politics”. He also said that the integration of the Maoist combatants was delayed as the former rebel fighters despite living in cantonments continue to act as per party directives.
