KATHMANDU, Nov 3: The agitating UCPN (Maoist) on Tuesday withdrew its scheduled program to picket the Tribhuvan International Airport, the only international airport in the country, as a part of its ongoing second phase of protest programs against the government.

A meeting of top Maoist leaders held at the party’s headquarters at Parisdanda took a decision to this effect. The decision was taken as per the request of the chiefs of diplomatic missions based in Kathmandu.

According to Maoist sources, diplomats from a dozen countries including the US, the EU and Russia, had asked the Maoists to withdraw the protests during their meeting with the Maoist leadership held at Hotel Annapurna. Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and the party’s foreign relations department chief Krishna Bahadur Mahara attended the meeting.

Earlier, the Maoist had announced to shut down the airport on November 10.
