Maoist to hold rallies in eight cities

KATHMANDU, March 18: Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) has decided to organize mass meetings in eight different cities of the country early next month.



The mass meetings will be held in Kathmandu, Biratnagar, Janakpur, Pokhara, Butwal, Dang, Nepalgunj and Kanchanpur on April 6. Maoist Chairman and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is scheduled to address the rally in Kathmandu, Dr Baburam Bhattarai in Pokhara, Ram Bahadur Thapa in Biratnagar, Lila Mani Pokharel in Janakpur, Narayan Kaji Shrestha in Butwal, Krishna Bahadur Mahara in Dang, Dev Prasad Gurung in Nepalgunj and Netra Bikram Chand in Kanchanpur. The party´s Central Secretariat meeting held on Tuesday took the decision.



The party also set up a five-member panel headed by Mohan Baidya to mobilize the party´s whole-time cadres. The secretariat meeting also supported the government decision of not extending the term of eight brigadier generals, saying it was as per the governing laws.
