DANG, May 8:  Over 500 Maoist cadres who gathered in Ghorai, the district headquarters of Dang, all the way from Rolpa district have started returning to their villages.

They were staying in a mess run by the party since the last six days and returned home after the UCPN (Maoist) called off its general strike Friday evening.

The scenes seen around the mess clearly reflected frustration among the Maoist cadres. The managers at the mess made food arrangements for a large number of cadres while many had already left for their homes. [break]

“A large quantity of rice and vegetables was wasted as they couldn´t estimate the number of cadres who stayed on,” said a cook pointing at some goats eating left-over rice and vegetables.

Maoist had run messes at six different places including in Ghorahi, Tulsipur and Bhaluwang.

Man Bahadur Budha, who managed the mess at Sai Temple premises in Ghorai for those who came from Rolpa, said they would now intensify protests from their home district. “We will intensify our agitation in Rolpa,” he said.

Maoists gathered people in Ghorahi from neighboring districts Rukum, Rolpa, Salyan and Pyuthan districts.
