KATHMANDU, Jan 17: Maoist leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara said on Sunday that his party told Indian Minister for Foreign Affairs SM Krishna that the party´s ongoing political programs are not directed against India.

“We are launching the political programs for national independence, not against anyone,” said Mahara, speaking at a talk program in Kathmandu.

Mahara, who is also the party´s foreign department chief , argued that the Maoist party is on agitation for protecting Nepali interests. Mahara was also present during the meeting between Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Indian Minister Krishna who left for New Delhi on Sunday after a three-day visit to Nepal.

During his meeting with Dahal, Krishna had expressed concern that the ongoing Maoist agitation may imperil relations between the two countries. Mahara said the talks centered on resolving the problems through diplomatic and political channels.

Under its fourth phase of protest, the Maoist party has give primacy to the agenda of “national independence”. Mahara accused that India has been encroaching upon the Nepali land. “India is acting as if it was a master and Nepal a servant. Our party holds the view that it should be stopped,” he said.
