KATHMANDU, Dec 29: The ongoing politburo meeting of the UCPN (Maoist) will continue on Wednesday as some members are yet to speak on party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal´s political proposal. "An Analytical Proposal on the Current Political Situation" presented by Dahal on Monday at the politburo meeting has set "national independence" as the party´s prime agenda.

"The meeting will continue on Wednesday as many leaders are yet to comment on the chairman´s paper," said Maoist spokesperson Dinanath Sharma. The party´s central committee meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed to Thursday.

Party leaders including Lilamani Pokharel, Barsaman Pun, Devendra Paudel, Giriraj Mani Pokahrel and Dinanath had spoken on Dahal´s paper. "The issue of national independence has come to the fore due to growing foreign intervention, especially from India. National independence and the peace process are in danger. So we have to counter it," said Devendra Paudel.

There are some differences among the leaders about the party´s strategy, though there is consensus that "national independence" should be the prime agenda. "On the whole, there are no fundamental differences about party strategy," said Paudel.
