Now the plenum will begin November 21, said Maoist spokesperson Janardan Sharma. [break]
This is the third time the Maoist party has put off the meeting initially scheduled to be held in Chitwan from September 17. The meeting was first rescheduled for October 29, fearing dengue fever in the plenum venue.
Then, it was postponed for the second time in view of Dashain and Tihar festivals and China visit of Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
"Our Muslim friends requested us to defer the plenum in view of their festival, much in the way we had done because of Dashain and Tihar," said Sharma after a meeting of the party´s standing committee on Thursday.
Dahal, according to Sharma, briefed the meeting about his recent China visit. "He told us that a high-level Chinese delegation is visiting New Delhi and he suggested to the Chinese leaders to talk to New Delhi for maintaining equidistance for development of Nepal," said Sharma about Dahal´s briefing about his Chinese visit.
Dahal had met Chinese leaders while in China to participate in the Shanghai Expo early this week.
When asked whether the party also discussed the deadlock over the budget, Maoist Vice Chairman Narayankaji Shrestha said, "The party continues to stick to its previous decision that the government should be formed first and the new government will bring in the budget."
