The Hindu group had called the strike and refused to perform his final rites demanding martyr´s status for him, arrest of culprits and compensation for his family. [break]
"As the administration assured us of meeting our demands, we withdrew the indefinite strike," said Jyoti Lal Sah, an advisor to the group.
The funeral procession went around Birgunj bazaar Monday evening before Tiwari´s body was cremated.
Earlier last night, police arrested local Maoist leader Jalim Miya on suspicion of involvement in Tiwari´s murder. Miya is the central leader of Maoist sister wing Muslim Mukti Morcha and a member of the Bhojpura State Committee of the UCPN-Maoist.
DSP Sanjib Sharma said police have received a complaint pinpointing four Maoist leaders for the murder. He, however, refused to reveal the names of other accused.
Miya is the fifth person arrested in connection with the murder. Police had arrested four persons, including two Indian nationals, on Sunday for investigation.
Meanwhile, a standing committee meeting of the UCPN-Maoist in Kathmandu on Monday expressed concerns over efforts to link the party with Tiwari´s murder. "Such efforts and arrest of our cadre are conspiracy against our party," said Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Maoist vice chairman.
