Maoist leader arrested for racial discrimination

SURKHET, March 21: On a day marking International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, a UCPN (Maoist) state committee member has been arrested for racial discrimination in Dailekh on Wednesday.



Ganesh Rawat, Bhairi-Karnali state committee member has been arrested for deserting his first wife on the basis of caste.[break]



His first wife Shova Sunar had filed a complaint in District police Office, accusing him of deserting her as she belongs to low caste and getting married to a girl of his caste. Shova belongs to Dalit community.



Based on his wife´s complaint, we have arrested him for investigation, said Sudarshan Thapa, deputy superintendent of police, Dailekh.



Rawat has two daughters and two sons from his first wife.



"I have filed a case against him, after he started abusing me and got married again," said Shova.



Rawat got married to Meena Mahatara few months back.
