Maoist district leader Jaman Singh Dhami confirmed Maoist cadres have detained Umesh Khatri and Bahadur Singh Dhami, district in-charge and secretary of the newly-formed armed group respectively, in Badal Lodge in Khalanga.
Khatri and Dhami rebelled two months ago to form the JSA, accusing the Maoists of making people suffer and not working as per the aspirations of the people. The organization has allegedly created terror in the villages, especially for Maoist cadres who have even been banned from visiting their villages. Maoists expelled them from the party following their move to form the JSA two months ago.
“Both are active members of our party. We have detained them for interrogation because they have been defaming our party after they disassociated themselves,” said Jaman Singh Dhami, who is a Maoist district leader. Several Maoist cadres have even fled villages due to the terror elicited by the JSA.
The Maoist-affiliated Young Communist League (YCL) ‘arrested’ Khatri and Dhami, who was an area secretary of the Maoists in the district on last Thursday from Kotpetara VDC, the bordering village between Darchula and Baitadi.
The Interim Constitution says no one will be detained illegally, and that the state is required to take action against those involved in the crime.
When asked why the police has not done anything to the Maoists for the illegal detention, district police chief Dilli Raj Bista said, “Though we have got information about the detention, we actually do not know the exact situation of the detention. They (the Maoists) have told us that they would hand over Khatri and Dhami to us soon.”
Maoist leader Dhami said his party would hand the detained over to police after interrogations were completed.
A source said the Maoists also beat the accused, seriously injuring them. They were even admitted to the Balanch health post for treatment.
“They are being interrogated inside the hotel while police have provided security outside,” the source said.
