KATHMANDU, Dec 30: The General Convention representatives of the CPN (Maoist Center) have suggested the scrapping of the US aid project, Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC). During the reporting of the group discussion on Wednesday under the eighth general convention being held in Kathmandu since Sunday, most of the groups demanded the repeal of the MCC saying that it was not in the interest of the country.

After discussing the political report submitted by Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal in a closed session on Monday, 11 groups on Wednesday suggested scrapping the MCC. Thakur Kumar BK, a delegate from Lumbini Province and coordinator of the CPN (Maoist Center) Central Committee, Arghakhanchi, said that all the 11 groups submitting suggestions on Chairman Dahal's report were of the view that the MCC should be scrapped. He said that the remaining 14 groups were also of the view that MCC should be scrapped.

In his report, Dahal said that the MCC should be passed only by amending it. The ruling CPN (Maoist Center) and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba have differing views on the implementation of the MCC as it is. The Maoist Center has been saying that the MCC should be implemented only after an amendment, while Prime Minister Deuba seems to be in favor of moving ahead with implementing the MCC as it is ‘because it is in Nepal's interest’.
