KATHMANDU, August 16: CPN (Maoist Center) and Nepal Socialist Party have been jointly registered as parties today (Tuesday) at the Election Commission for the November 20 elections to the House of Representatives and provincial assemblies.
It was agreed between both the parties to contest the election under the same symbol in the upcoming elections. On Tuesday morning, the Maoist Standing Committee meeting held at the central party office of CPN (Maoist Center) in Paris Danda also decided to allow Dr Baburam Bhattarai to contest the election on the Maoist Center’s election symbol.
NSP Chairman Dr Bhattarai and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal supported the idea of contesting with the same election symbol in the upcoming federal and provincial assembly members elections. The leaders of CPN (Maoist Center) and NSP reached the EC this afternoon for party registration.
The commission had given time to political parties for party registration from 7 to 16 August. Some of the parties have already been registered within this time, while the remaining parties will be registered by today. The main parties except for the Nepali Congress have already registered their parties for the upcoming elections. Nepali Congress will also register the party today.
