LAMJUNG, March 16: People from districts other than Manang will not be allowed to collect yarsagumba, a valuable herb found in the Himalayan foothills, in the Manang this year.

This decision has been taken in view of the murder last year of seven people from Gorkha district who had gone to collect the valuable herbs in Manang. The decision also comes in view of the increasing incidents of looting and robbery related to the rare herb at different places in the district. [break]

A joint meeting of the local administration, security bodies, the District Development Committee (DDC), Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), the conservation area management committee and local stakeholders took this decision in the presence of former minister and CA member Dev Gurung and CA member Yashoda Gurung.

A decision had been made in the past for the conservation area management committee constituted by ACAP to issue permits to the herb collectors. But this decision was not fully implemented.
