He died shortly after being admitted. An irate mob, including relatives of the deceased, pelted stones at the hospital´s emergency department following the death. Tables, chairs and cupboards in the emergency department were damaged in the attack.
Chaudhary lost consciousness after he slipped and fell in bathroom. Dharma Lal Chaudhary, a relative said he died as there were no doctors in the hospital.
The mob also manhandled Dr Dayashanker Lal Karna, the hospital´s chief, who reached the hospital while the vandalism was taking place.
Police resorted to baton charge to contain the situation, said Inspector Rajendra Parajuli. The entire hospital was tense after police baton charged at the mob numbering around 200.
Tensions subsided after local administration pledged investigation into the incident, and action against those responsible, apart from compensation if it is found that the death occurred from negligence.
Dr Karna claimed Chaudhary had died before reaching the hospital.
