Ram Bilas Ram, 40 murdered his 35-year-old wife Runa Devi hacked his wife to death with an axe, said the police.
According to preliminary investigation, Ram Bilas killed his wife as she was allegedly in an illicit relationship, reported Ward Police Office (WPO) in Lahan, the district headquarters. [break]
“We suspected something was wrong as Ram Bilas was carrying his wife´s body to a nearby Khutti Khola to perform her last rites,” said an eyewitness. Runa body had injuries all over her body, especially her head.
Ram Bilas has already admitted to killing his wife, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Hari Raj Wagle. Three other locals have also received injuries while trying to save Runa, said Wagle. The injured Ram Briksha Ram, Lachuwa Mochi and Kishun Ram are currently undergoing treatment at a Lahan-based hospital. Ram Briksha is Ram Bilas´s younger brother.
“On Saturday night, she was sleeping with me, Ram insisted Runa to go to sleep with him. He forcibly took her away after she refused to go sleep with him. And the next very morning, Ram killed her with an axe,” said Jitani Ram, mother of Ram Bilas.
Jitani said her son killed his wife “right in front of her eyes”. She has also received minor injuries while trying to intervene.
Rash Lal Ram, a local of the VDC said Renu had been supporting the family by running a tavern in her house after her husband left his job. “Ram doubted that his wife was having an extra-marital affair with one of her customer. This led him to kill his wife,” he said.
However, it is yet not clear whether she really had an illicit relationship, said DSP Wagle.
Over the last seven months, four persons have killed their wives for allegedly having extra-marital affairs.
