Saroj has confessed to police that he killed his wife, 18-year-old Anju, in their first night in Pokhara. The two had arrived in Pokhara on July 18 without informing their parents. They checked into room number 208 of Hotel Motherland at Lakeside. Saroj killed his wife the same night. [break]
Kaski police found Anju´s dead body in the hotel room at 2 am Tuesday. According to Kaski police chief, Superintendent of Police Pushkar Karki, Saroj had thrust over half-a-meter of bed sheet into Anju´s mouth after poisoning her.
“After the murder, Saroj left for Kathmandu with all his belongings. The murder was apparently pre-planned,” SP Karki said.
Police also found some bruises around Anju´s neck, indicating use of force. Police suspect Saroj drank a bottle of beer in the room after murdering Anju.
Saroj, who is from Kavresthali-4, Kathmandu, married Anju of Dhumbarahi on June 24. It was an arranged married. Saroj is the only son of his parents, while Anju was the second among three daughters of her parents.
The hotel´s operator Ram Tripathi had picked the two up from Prithvichowk at 3 pm Sunday. Saroj is found to have entered fake name and address in the hotel logbook. To the hotel staff, he identified himself as Ram Bahadur Chimre of Dhading.
The fact that Saroj hid his identity and arrived in Pokhara with his wife without informing his or her parents has made police conclude that his intentions were evil.
Tripathi said hotel staff did not hear any suspicious noise during the night of the murder. The hotel staff opened the hotel gate at 5 am on Monday, and did not notice Saroj leaving the hotel.
The two were not seen the whole day. Hotel staff assumed that the two might have gone to their relatives´ place, as Saroj had told them they had relatives in Pokhara.
Police arrived at around 2 am Tuesday and broke into the room an hour later.
Apart from Saroj, police have arrested his girlfriend Kopila.
