Man kills his son, brother

RUKUM, Aug 16: A man in Musikot Municipality of Rukum has been accused of killing his own son and brother on Wednesday.

Shankar Bista, 36, of Musikot-14, Loribang allegedly killed his six-year-old son Sudarshan and brother Gokarna Bista, 16, according to police. Police Inspector Sumit Khadka of the District Police Office (DPO) informed that Shankar used a Khukuri to kill them.

Two of his other sons have also sustained serious injuries apparently after being attacked by their father. Shankar reportedly attacked them in a fit of anger after his wife went to a nearby tap for fetching drinking water in the morning. The deceased Gokarna was a disabled.

Meanwhile, Shankar's elder son Prakash, 13, and Dinesh, 10, were initially taken to the District Hospital, Salle but were later transferred to Nepalgunj for further treatment. As per the preliminary investigation of police, Shankar had even tried to commit suicide by attacking himself with the same Khukuri. As he had sustained a neck injury, he was at first taken to the District Hospital and then arrested by police.

Shankar's father Chakra Bahadur stated that the incident occurred in the absence of other family members. "Me and my daughter-in-law were out of home when it happened," said Chakra Bahadur, adding, "When we reached home, Shankar was attacking himself with a Khukuri."

He further informed that they reported the incident to police after tying Shankar's hand. The dead bodies of Sudarshan and Gokarna were cremated on the bank of Sanibheri River the same day. Police have started investigation to find out why Shankar killed his own son and brother.
