The elderly tiger, which had killed Hanumante Sarki and Bhim Bahadur Ale in Devnagar village of Gitanagar VDC on May 9, died inside the cage in Kasara, the headquarters of Chitwan National Park (CNP). Park officials had captured the tiger by using a tranquilizer dart and were providing medical treatment. [break]
CNP has informed that the tiger could not servive as it was old and injured in an attack by other tigers in the jungle.
According to wildlife experts, tigers do not usually prey on humans. However, they sometimes enter human settlements in search for easy prey including dogs, goats and cattle when unable to hunt in the wild. The tiger had killed Sarki, who as sleeping at his home in the night. Similarly, Ale was killed when a group of villagers including Ale were searching for the tiger in a thicket near the village. Another local, Bikash Nyaupane, was severely injured in another attack by the tiger on the same day.
As per the information given in the press statement issued by the CNP, the female tiger was of around 15 years old and had deep injuries in its neck, back and tail due to the attack by other tigers. Park officials conducted post mortem on the tiger and buried it.
