KATHMANDU, Nov 27: In the year 2005, the Mac and Sam duo took audiences on a joyride. Garam Masala, the comedy brought together John Abraham and Akshay Kumar’s comic pair, on screen for the very first time.

Apart from the slapstick and witty humor of Priyadarshan, one thing that left the audiences craving for more was the chemistry between the two lead actors. [break]

The wait is finally over with Desi Boyz, as the duo once again display their sizzling chemistry to bring out the best of each other throughout the film. The audiences are in for a treat.

This yarn unfolds in London. Rescission has hit high and our heroes’ Jerry Patel, (Akshay Kumar) later Rocco and Nick Mathur, (John Abraham) later Hunter are amongst those most affected by it.

John has a perfect life, an apartment, a job that showers him with bonuses, which he uses to buy lavish gifts for his girlfriend, soon to be wife, Radhika, (Deepika Padukone). Akshay, plays the role of a security personnel, who has to parent his nephew, Veer after losing his sister and brother in law in an accident.

Tension strikes when both boys end up loosing their jobs during the recession. On one hand John’s fiancée is planning their honeymoon and a Valentino wedding dress while Akshay needs to pay for his little nephew’s school fees.

At the peak of their frustration, enters Sanjay Dutt, who owns a company called Desi Boys that hires male escorts.

The song “Nayak nahi khalnayak hoon main” is the background song when he enters the scene, at all times. Dutt manages to convince our heroes into joining the business that provides women ‘small moments of happiness.’

Things turn ugly when Radhika witnesses her fiancée performing a pole dance. Nick spends endless days and countless nights apologizing to Radhika.

Jerry on the other hand joins Trinity College, to complete his final semester but ends up falling in love with Tanya, (Chitrangda) who is now his economics teacher, and earlier his classmate who had had a crush on him.

While Tanya helps Jerry by tutoring him in strip-pokerly fashion. It is (Anupam Kher), Radhika’s father in the film who befriends Nick, helping him regain Radhika’s love.

All the actors including Anupam Kher, Omi Vaidya, Shraman Jain have portrayed their characters well. But it is the chemistry between the two male leads that has managed to get the audiences smitten.

Be it the telepathic connection where they communicate without words in certain scenes or the greatly improved comic timings of the duo, they never fail to impress.

The ladies in the movie sadly, are viewed as nothing more than eye candy. Although looking sexy and confident each time they appear on screen, the duo have very little to do.

The movie isn’t a laugh riot but manages to keep the audiences upright in their seats with its rib tickling humor. The director, Rohit Dhawan, son of veteran director David Dhawan deals with the scenes in a clever manner never losing his grip.

The result being that he manages to stay aloof from the typical cheesy scenes depicted in most Hindi movies.

For example, the orphan kid who is to be sent to a foster home, the under dog who rises as the hero (Akshay) and the typical court room climax, all these could have easily ruined the mood of the film, all too obvious but the clever comic method used by the director makes the moments bearable and funny.

Also, Dhawan a first time director chooses to stay away from sexual puns, almost an essential in most of his father’s films. There are definitely a few scenes that have phallic references but these are not overtly used.

The cinematography by Natarajan Subramaniam is a job well done. The canvas of the film is big with scenes that look breathtakingly beautiful.

Music has been composed by Pritam. The title track was a hit even before the release of the movie and other numbers like Jhak maar ke and Subha Hone Na De, have created a space for themselves as well. All the songs are catchy and none look forced into the scene.

The editing is clever. The scenes never look crowded or stretched. Nitin Rokade makes sure that each actor gets his/her deserved space, on screen.

Another forte of this comedy is the sleek stylish look it has, thanks to designers Shymali Arora and Kunal Rawal, who claim to have handpicked garments for John Abraham and Akshay Kumar.

John looks very inspired by Shia LaBeouf`s “Wall Street” with his complete corporate look consisting of white collar banker shirts, accompanied by oxford ties and pocket handkerchief. Akshay on the other hand wears graphic t-shirts, some with slogans, denims, fire-fighter pants and winter jackets.

Deepika looks gorgeous in high waist skirts and colorful tops. Her style speaks of elegance, style and oomph.

As for Chitrangada Singh who is refereed to as “hotness” by her students, wears formal yet sexy skirts with silk blouses, skinny belts and dresses.

The overall impression is that of a witty comic show that definitely deserves a watch, more so for the female audience, Raise your voice and make some noise for the Desi Boyz!
