KATHMANDU, June 26: Major political parties represented in the High Level Political Committee (HLPC) have reiterated their commitment to holding fresh Constituent Assembly (CA) polls on the stipulated date of November 19.

A meeting of HLPC held on Wednesday also decided to hold a meeting with the officials of Election Commission (EC) to discuss the preparations made so far for the November 19 CA polls. "We have also decided to continue our negotiations with the agitating parties to bring them onboard the election process," said UCPN (Maoist) Vice Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha. [break]

Shrestha said the top leaders, who held separate meetings with the leaders of agitating parties, briefed about the outcome of the meetings with CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya, Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Nepal Upendra Yadav and Federal Socialist Party Chairman Ashok Rai.

NC President Sushil Koirala and Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Democratic Chairman Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar said though Yadav and Rai appeared flexible, it was still uncertain if the Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist would participate in the election. "I taked to Baidya about their bottom line. But he did not say anything," a leader quoted NC President Koirala as saying.

During the meeting, Baidya had told them that their central committee meeting scheduled for June 29 would take a formal decision on to boycott or participate in the election. Parties represented in HLPC have agreed to increase the number of seats allocated under proportional electoral system if that brings the agitating parties on board the election process, but agreed not to defer the election date.
