Speaking at the meeting party chairperson KP Sharma Oli said,” The government should amend the constitution to revise the date for the presentation of the budget if it decides to hold the second phase of the election after May 29. If not it should fix the day before May 29 to avoid the breach of election code of conduct.”

The government should not present the budget before the second phase of election as that will directly influence the election, said Oli.

In another context, chairperson Oli said that the election and the constitution amendment are not the issues interrelated with each other.  He said that his party will not support the constitution amendment bill that includes the clause of delineation of the provinces without making any agreement on provincial decision.

Earlier in the day, during the meeting with the Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, chairperson Oli had expressed his accord for the conduction of the election in two phases. He, however, suggested PM to fix the date for the second phase maintaining the code of conduct.

The government has decided to hold the local level election in two phases, fixing May 14 and June 14 as the polling dates.
