"Mahat was the first Nepali government official to interact with international community after the earthquakes and he took a last-minute trip to Asian Development Bank (ADB) annual meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan, to raise awareness among his peers and the press," the message inscribed in the award reads.
Mahat was in the cabinet of former Prime Minister Sushil Koirala in his sixth stint as the finance minister.
The Banker also noted Mahat's efforts for making International Conference on Nepal's Reconstruction a success. In the conference, development partners pledged assistance worth US$ 4.1 billion.
The Banker, which is a co-publication of Financial Times, has also stated that Nepal's finances and macro economy have remained sturdy despite uprisings and natural calamities.
In 2015, the magazine had recognized Taiwanese Finance Minister Chang Sheng-ford as 'Finance Minister for the Year 2015' for his success in pushing for real estate and income tax reforms.
