Speaking at a Reporters Club Nepal program in the capital, Mahat also accused Maoists of trying to seize state powers after dissolving the Constituent Assembly and argued that President Dr Ram Baran Yadav should not be silent in such a situation.
"The president should take steps to safeguard democracy and the constitution. He should not keep mum," Mahat said at a time when the ruling UCPN (Maoist) is charging the head of state with overstepping his constitutional limits for rejecting election-related ordinances.
