The CC has been called to give full shape to the CC, complete the OB and also form the SC and PB.[break]
“The OB meeting, also called for Thursday morning, will give the final shape of things to be presented to the CC,” said Narayan Kaji Shrestha, vice-chairman.
At the meeting of the OB, the leaders discussed a nine-member OB but they could not finalise things.
There are now only four on the OB -- Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Baburam Bhattarai, Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Post Bahaudur Bogati. Maoist sources said that the discussions Wednesday were for nominating Bogati as vice-chairman, Krishna Bahadur Mahara as general secretary, Barsha Man Pun, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Giriraj Mani Pokheral and Ram Chandra Jha as secretaries and Hisila Yami as treasure.
“Today’s meeting was about the nine-member OB, including treasurer, but this is yet to be finalized. The names of leaders and their posts can be changed at Thursday morning’s meeting,” said Maoist sources.
Leaders are not sure about Jha as secretary. If Jha is elected as secretary without upgrading Shrawan Yadav, Prabhu Sah and Bishwa Nath Sah, Shrawan and Prabhu are prepared to revolt.
If the discussions of Wednesday’s meeting are endorsed at Thursday morning, the proposal for Mahara as general secretary will be presented at the CC. And Mahara will be selected as general secretary and Bogati as vice-chairman.
“If things go as discussed today, Dahal will pick Mahara as general secretary,” said a Maoist leader.
Maoist leaders say Mahara was assured by Dahal of general secretary before the Hetauda general convention but Dahal could not decide because of Indian pressure.
Yami is unanimous for treasurer as the sole top woman leader in the party.
“There is no controversy in the party over the nine-member OB but only over formation of a 17-memebr OB,” said Bishwa Bhakta Dulal.
According to Maoist leaders, Shrestha has been saying Bogati will be humiliated if he is transferred as vice chairman as he has been general secretary for a very short period. It would also not be a good message for the party to have many vice-chairmen.
Earlier, the discussion was to give priority to youth leaders, nominating Pun as general secretary, five senior leaders as vice-chairmen and youth leaders as secretaries.
Another option was keeping the OB intact, nominating only Mahara as senior secretary or just the sole secretary.
