KATHMANDU, Dec 3: Madhesh Province Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav has resigned from his post.
He made the announcement during a provincial assembly session convened to seek a vote of confidence on Wednesday.

The resignation comes a day after the Supreme Court (SC) ordered Yadav to seek a confidence vote within 24 hours. In line with the court’s directive, a provincial assembly session was called on Wednesday morning. However, due to the absence of ruling party lawmakers, the meeting was postponed to 2 PM.
Seeing that he was unlikely to secure the vote of confidence, Yadav addressed the assembly after the rescheduled session and formally tendered his resignation.
Yadav was appointed Chief Minister on November 9 under Article 168(3) of the Constitution. His appointment, however, faced legal challenges as seven provincial lawmakers argued it was unconstitutional and knocked the door of the Supreme Court.
The controversy deepened after reports surfaced that former Province Chief Sumitra Subedi Bhandari had administered the oath to Yadav not at the official provincial headquarters, but in a resort hotel located in a forested area along the Mahottari–Sindhuli border. Opposition leaders and civil society members subsequently challenged the appointment before the SC, with 74 provincial assembly members opposing it.
Acting on the SC’s decision, the government sacked Bhandari from her position on November 10.
