KATHMANDU, July 9: Madan Krishna Kayastha on Wednesday claimed the title of NECOS Rapid Chess Tournament. He overcame FIDE Master (FM) Manish Hamal in the fifth round and shared points with another FM Rupesh Jaiswal in the sixth.
He accumulated 5.5 points in the six round match and bagged a purse of Rs 10,000.
Asian Zonal chess championship from March 18
Bivek Thing stood second with five points defeating Rajendra Prasad Shrestha in the final round. Rupesh with equal five points finished third on the basis of inferior progressive points.
Bivek walked home with Rs 7,000 and Rupesh with Rs 5,000. Manish Hamal finished fourth and Kshitiz Bhandari earned fifth spot. Minister for Youth and Sports Purusottam Paudel distributed prizes to the winners.
