KATHMANDU, July 18: The 'Machhenarayan Mela (fair)' kicked off today at the Machhenarayan Temple located in Chandragiri Municipality-9 of Kathmandu. Machhenarayan's Mela is held in that temple in Purushottam month (Adhik Maas or Mal Maas) every three years.

Chandragiri-9 Ward Chairman Achyut Adhikari said that the Machhenarayan Mela which started today will last for a month. He said that devotees from Nepal and India come to visit the fair during the Mal Maas.
There is a tradition of reciting Narayan Puja/Purushottam Mahatmya in the temple throughout the Mal Maas period. There is also a religious belief that all sins are destroyed by worshiping Lord Narayan.
