KATHMANDU, July 30: The newly-appointed Lumbini Province Chief Amik Sherchan has urged the provincial government to give the task of raising the living standards of the people living in villages and remote settlements the first priority.
Taking charge of his office today, he said that economic prosperity could be achieved only if the living standard of the disadvantaged people was improved.

Stating that the existing federal system including inclusive and proportional system is exemplary for the international community, Sherchan said that this system should be properly implemented exactly as mentioned in the constitution. “We should not create a situation where the constitution is interpreted just to suit those in power. That goes against the spirit of the constitution,” he said. “We are not allowed to go beyond the rights specified in the constitution.”
