BAGLUNG, Aug 24: Dissatisfied over the inclusion of Baglung district in province number 5, locals, cadres affiliated to various political parties among them, took to the streets on Monday.

The agitation has erupted over the annexation of western part of Baglung into province number five. The locals, who want Baglung to join province number four, flooded the streets of Baglung Bazaar, Hatiya, Kharwang on Monday. The demonstrators worry that division of Baglung into different provinces would create more hassles for the locals in carrying out official work.

"Besides, integrating the Dorpatan area of Baglung with province number five would deprive province number four of the rich natural diversity of the area," said Jagdish Chandra Upadhaya, chairperson of Nepal Congress Chairman of Baglung.

Even the locals of Baglung constituency-3 met the leaders of major political parties to discuss their five-point demand.

Not only cadres of various political parties, even 16 lawmakers of Dhaulagiri district have expressed similar concern over the district's division. The lawmakers belong to Nepal Congress, CPN-UML, UCPN-Maoist and Rastriya Janamorcha Party.

"Earlier, senior politicians had pledged to put Baglung into province number four. But the proposed seven-province model clearly goes against their past commitment. Division of Baglung district is unacceptable," said Gyan Kumari Chhatyal, Constituency Assembly member from Baglung-3.
