Locals demand punishment to Siba's murderer

BARDIYA, Dec 27: Locals of Gulariya-8, Bardiya on Thursday staged demonstrations demanding punishment to the murderer of Siba Hasmi. The demonstrators led by Women Upliftment Centre chanted slogans against domestic violence and later submitted a memorandum to the District Administration Office demanding that the culprits be brought to book.



Police had earlier arrested Siba´s lover Babu Khan, who allegedly killed her by setting her on fire. [break]



The police have also arrested Siba´s brother Suddu and mother Hasina after the locals filed a complaint accusing them of involvement in the murder. The locals have also handed over a tape of telephone conversation between the deceased and Babu Khan.



In the tape, Siba is heard pleading her lover to marry her and take her away from her pestering parents. Siba, who had sustained burn injuries, breathed her last while undergoing treatment at Bir Hospital in Kathmandu on December 13.
