KATHMANDU, July 19: Locals obstructing the footpath expansion work in Kathmandu's New Road area have continued their protests. Nepal Police, KMC Police, and other security personnel have been deployed in large numbers to manage the situation.
Tensions have risen, with scuffles breaking out between the locals and the metropolitan police. The confrontation intensified when the KMC Police prevented the crowd from entering the office housing the Juddha Fire Brigade.

The protests began early Thursday morning, with locals expressing their opposition to Mayor Balen Shah and the city police. They demand that the footpath should not be widened at the expense of narrowing the existing road. The movement is being led by Chinkaji Shrestha, Ward-22 Chairman.
To prevent any untoward incident during the protest, a substantial number of police personnel have been mobilized. KMC police personnel are also present in significant numbers.
