The protests began early Thursday morning, with locals expressing their opposition to Mayor Balen Shah and the city police. They demand that the footpath should not be widened at the expense of narrowing the existing road. The movement is being led by Chinkaji Shrestha, Ward-22 Chairman.

To prevent any untoward incident during the protest, a substantial number of police personnel have been mobilized. KMC police personnel are also present in significant numbers.
