The agitating farmers said they had to take to the streets as their complaints have fallen on deaf ears . They have formed a struggle committee to carry out a series of protest programs to protect the Kamala River from over exploitation.
"We knocked on the doors of all concerned authorities. No one listened to our voice. So, we had to block the highway," said Kari Yadav, coordinator of the struggle committee. "We will continue to fight unless all crusher plants are removed from the Kamala River."
The agitating farmers said they have already informed President Dr Ram Baran Yadav about environmental degradation caused by excessive extraction of sand, boulder and stones from the Kamala River. "Crusher plants continue to operate on the foothills of the Chure hills, making a mockery of Chure conservation program run in the name of the president," said Yadav.
The agitating farmers said they had to swing into action to protect the Kamala River because they depend on it for irrigation.
One month ago, the local administration had shut down all crusher plants operating on the banks of Kamala River following a series of protests by the locals. "But, all crusher plants came into operation after a week," said Yadav.
Currently, three crusher plants are operating on the banks of Kamala River.
